I think it is an international crisis and is being ignored by state and federal agencies. Their guidance is hire a company while billions are stolen and lifes are ruined.

I had a friend that was notified by the IRS because she failed to report income on her taxes. Someone had stolen her identity, gotten a job, and used her identity. When my friend filed her taxes, she (of course) didn't use those W-2's or income because she didn't work there. This woman not only used my friend's social security number for work but for state assistance. My friend has been battling the mess of this for now 5 years. It has ruined her what was once perfect credit score and made it very difficult when trying to do anything - vote, open a bank account, get a driver's license, ect.
