Many of us are retired, and on fixed incomes. We barely have enough money for our own needs. We are frequently asked to give money to many causes, some very good, most not so good. You can waste your money asking, but we don't have it to give.

I personally would donate money.
I can see the benefit of this, but I don't think anybody should be forced to donate who does not want to.

Of those who offer to donate, how many will really donate?
My cynicism is in overdrive today.

Get enough Kansans to donate, and the individual contributions could be relatively small. Problem with the question as posed is that we have no idea of the cost of renovation. Then those of us on limited fixed incomes could make a fact-based decision on whether or not we could contribute — and how much.
The way things are going in the state, it would be good to have even a cabin left standing that says, "We were here, and we mattered."
imho

No. I think our history is important to remember and so is defeating disease. So a little here and a little there. Everyone's happy.

Donate money? Heck, I'll pay for the whole thing!
How much could a pack of matches and a gallon of gas cost anyway?
