We need the streets fixed before we need any new bike paths.
Heavy, high-speed vehicles such as cars and trucks are very destructive to roads, so repairing them is an endless task. Holding bike routes hostage to such an impossibility as "fixing the streets" is ludicrous.
Then maybe bicyclists should pay more taxes to build these paths like people who drive cars pay taxes to fix the roads.
The roads are not paid for exclusively by motorists-- not even close.
Uhh, what? Bicyclists pay taxes too.
Aren't roads and bike paths both paid for by property taxes and sales taxes? As a homeowning cyclist who buys stuff regularly, I'm already contributing.
Exactly, property tax and taxes on gasoline, etc. Things that someone who buys a $5 bike at a garage sale is not paying.
Well, not exactly, but I expect your dislike of bikes is fairly close to your dislike of facts.
Then by all means, please educate me on how someone who only owns a bicycle pays as much taxes to pay for the roads they use as someone who owns and operates a vehicle...
My goal this September was to leave the car parked all month. Between my bike, the bus (which by the way seems busier this year) and walking, it's been no problem.
Nice! I have to commute for work unfortunately, but other than that I don't use my car at all for getting around town since I bought a bike. Best purchase I've made in a long time. And yeah, the roads are bad in places, and motorists tend to not pay attention to you all that well, but it's so nice not having to drive everywhere and waste gas.
My grandson and I went for a bike ride last week. Its dangerous to ride a bike around here, either a pit bull comes charging after you or a car. I think I'm going to give up riding a bike and just stick to my car where I feel a little safer.
Was it really a pit bull, or are you just naming the most stereotypically violent dog you can?
It was a Pit, I know the difference.
My dog and I went for a jog last week. It's dangerous to jog around here, either a grandma riding a bike or driving a car almost runs me down. I think I'm going to give up jogging between the hours of 5am - 7pm to avoid the dangerous grandmas out on the road.
LOL Cute, but not witty enough.
To sunshine- when I was a kid bikes had baskets and a brick in the basket was the answer to pit bulls coming after me on my bike. Dont tell PETA
My mom used to keep a squirt gun loaded with ammonia by the front door whenever her pet dog was in heat. Don't know why she just didn't have it spayed.
Ah, interesting idea.
Glass cleaner is more fun and not as messy.
I've considered getting a bike again, but with drivers gluing cell phones to their hands and ears, plus texting as they bounce off the curbs, weave into oncoming lanes, run stop signs, run over curbs, drive 20mph in a designated 40mph, yell so loud on the phone that you can hear them 3 car lengths away, I'll stick with my car.
I try to ride my bike a few times a week. Lawrence needs more bike lanes!
more bike lanes would be good and wider sidewalks on every street. thanks!!
