Raftery is too full of himself and his "cutesy" little sayings. Knight gives it to you straight, and explains what's going on from an experienced viewpoint. He needs to shut up about his pheasant hunting trips, but otherwise Coach Knight is the best.

Coach Knight may mess up some names every now and then, but he knows what he is talking about which is more important than getting each name right everytime.

At least Raftery isn't a hypocrite like Bobby (former media hater, now I am one of them) Knight... I would like him better if he toned down his "sayings" and schtick a little though.
I prefer Paul Splitorff to anyone, personally...

Bob Knight any day, any time.
Raftery is not comfortable in his skin. He is like a 60 something year old trying to speak like a 20 year old. He should just be himself and provide years of wisdom not such phrasings as; "swizel with jizzle to the hoop for the big man."

Actually, I think Knight being a "media hater" is exactly what makes him a good color announcer. He wasn't strictly a media hater, but he didn't tolerate stupid questions, comments, or otherwise bad media work, and as such, he pretty much never produces that himself. Knight is by far my favorite announcer as well.

I couldn't stand Bobby Knight as a coach but he's a great announcer. He's low-keyed and certainly knows the game.
I agree with several posts here that Raftery tried too hard to be a second Dick Vitale (who I personally can't stand to listen to either).
Bobby give clear examples and keeps a non-biased attitude toward everyone at all times. Some announcers seem to get caught up with who's playing better at that particular moment, but not Bobby.

bobby knight is a great color guy. he would be real dynamite if he knocked back a few drinks before the games though.

I hate to put anyone down, but if you choose Bill Raferty you are dumb.
BK is the best color man in college basketball. Raferty, well not too good.
