No one wants to close schools and no one wants to pay the taxes to keep them open. Only in America do we feel we deserve all the government services someone else can pay for.

  2. Pete_Schweti (anonymous) says…

Didn't we just do this a few years back?

  3. OonlyBonly (anonymous) says…

Don't close schools, close some of the "administrator's" desks!

closing schools only to save money is only hurting ones that need it the most. Why not put a tax on some of the alcohol sales lawrence has, it has one of the highest sales in the US.

Sure, close those 3 schools and put in 3 homeless shelters!! I bet there would be enough idiots in this town to put up money for the shelters, but they would not help keep schools open. Change at its finest.

Bulls eye, you nailed it. This school district is way too top heavy, lets unpack the district office not pack anymore of our schools.

It should consider closing the useless administration center then the schools would have all the money they need.

jkealing, can you please talk to the people of "on the street" and ask them to ask the question, " Is USD 497 too top heavy? Should we begin cuts at the administrative level"? and save our schools.

That is the barry o way, worshiped by liberals. They just haven't worked out that you cripple individuals, families and economies by taxing the life out of them. Give me a new Cadillac and my neighbors can pay.....

Why did Scott Morgan approve a $20 million sports project knowing full well this matter needed to be resolved?

I'm surprised by how many voted "yes." Closing schools will only transfer costs to the newly crowded schools. A budget problem will still remain.

Oh it looks as if the children in East Lawrence are going to get shafted....again.
    What a surprise!

Didn't they just spend millions building new stadiums?

  14. observing (anonymous) says…

Schools? No. But the multiple layers of administrators, trainers, coordinators, etc., cost a fortune.

I think the schools should be closed and the kids should work in mines. Thanks heavens we have salt mines in Kansas.
What would be best for Kansas and our country, I think class room sizes should be smaller so we need the schools. Teachers should be paid more. I also think school should go 12 months 8 to 5. with a week off between quarters and all holidays off.

Good idea; get rid of the kids instead. It is all of those kids in school that is costing so much. (sarcasm)

Here is a can of worms to open up. The 2005-2006 budget showed that $10,395,000, out of the $56,784,464 budgeted for "Instructional Expenditures," was spent for Special Education. That is, 18% of the money spent in the classroom went to support students with exceptionalities.

By the way, that same budget also shows that an additional $54,471,649 was spent that year on non-instructional expenditures.

The Way i see it! Our education systems are so horrible already I'm glad schools are shutting down. think before you anger yourself! education is important and a problem like this will get people thinking. We don't ever think people we just get scared from what the news has to say. The Bankers controlling the world will be exposed when people start thinking. See It's all perfect timing when the education gets an updated platform and crooks are losing power. We put all our faith in things like recessions when we could put that energy into education systems. kids are getting stupid we need to change, that doesn't mean agree with the tv when it says time for change(that doesn't do anything). lets stop fearing the news, face our fears that stop us from fixing something ourselves. Honestly when it comes down to anything politcal i can't find people who know any else then what was broadcasted that applies to current events..

If you want to fight about school systems I can tell you from personal experience that people in my generation are getting screwed hard by a poor in quality and costly education. To the parents, I'm sorry i hang out with your kids and they tell me horrible things they hide under their skin from you. If we all fliped inside out then we could see what lies beneath. After one to many parties you really see reality as depressing if you continue without getting out.

I know i sound far out, but gods telling me i got to say something. Think of this, When was the last time you heard any thing that made you feel good in a secure way on the news?

If you get offended or reject this then i think you're a crazy person who needs to wake up and see god wants you to open up. remember if you're offened i don't care and you're proving my point to all my friends and we laugh about it.

I really apprciated it if you read this.
    Thanks!
sorry for errors i absolutely didn't proof read this donk ramble! PEACE

Thank god a teenager who god is speaking to personally. and it is that the news services make him/her anxious and she/he should be told happy things. I have good news for him/her there are happy things, but they are mostly in the parks and long walks. Look at the sunrise and do something for someone else. Then the news won't be so depressing. Also don't have a family or take on responsibilities they have a tendency to make you think reality is a bummer sometimes. Keep loose, don't do anything wrong, if you do, don't get caught and if you do get caught go to your happy place. One more thing, worried your education is inadequate, read, then read some more, take notes.
