After a seven-year absence, Lawrence again is set to have a parade to celebrate the University of Kansas’ homecoming weekend.
KU leaders announced this week that a parade will snake its way through the Lawrence campus at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23, which is the day before KU is scheduled to play Baylor in a homecoming football contest. The parade will travel along Jayhawk Boulevard.
A homecoming parade had been a regular part of KU’s celebrations for decades, but the event fell dormant in recent years. KU student leaders, however, campaigned to bring back the parade, calling it an “important campus tradition.”
“We see the parade as a meaningful signal that university leadership values student input in shaping important decisions,” Andrew Murga and Henry Whalen, KU’s 2025 and 2026 student body president and vice president said in a written statement announcing the revival of the parade.
Registered student organizations and university-sponsored groups are invited to participate in the parade. Local businesses and community organizations also can participate in the parade through various sponsorship options. Businesses and organizations seeking to participate in the parade need to be registered by Oct. 9 by contacting Jayhawk Community Partners at jcp@ku.edu, or by contacting the homecoming parade committee at homecoming@kualumni.org
