First Med Family & Walk-in Care
I have been to First Med as a walk-in patient a couple of times in the past and have had great experiences. This evening I brought my son in for a walk-in appointment and had such a great experience that I am writing my first-ever online review. Jordan and Darcy were wonderful with my miserable-feeling son. They both had great bedside manner and were very thorough in checking him out and asking questions about his symptoms to help make a diagnosis. After we left my son asked if he could go to First Med for his annual checkups, which is a HUGE compliment because he loves his pediatrician. I am so glad that he was able to be seen on short notice by such caring and talented healthcare providers. Even though he was a walk-in patient close to closing time, we did not feel like they wanted to rush him through and get us out the door. Jordan and Darcy both gave him plenty of time and their undivided attention, which helped him feel better and helped me feel like my son was in competent, caring hands.
Worse service I have ever seen. The front desk man was a complete jerk, didn't even say anything as I approached the desk just starred at me until I told him why I was visiting. The front also only tried to contact my insurance to verify once and then were gonna charge me $105 to be seen because they wouldn't try calling again. Then the next day right at open the wait time was 2 hours and the front desk man was really pushing me to wait until the next day while I'm in really bad kidney pain. He told us we could go home for like and hour and then the wait shouldn't be more than another hour. Well 2 more hours later I'm still not being seen. What kind of clinic only has one doctor. I should have gone to the ER it probably would have been faster and more accurate than this joke of a clinic. I will never be coming back here for any reason!
This place is absolutely awful. If you have any kind of problem that needs addressed within days, I suggest that you do not seek out their help. It's been weeks since I've started there and so far, they haven't started me off on anything for the list of problems that I'm having and they've done labs. I have even provided them with all of the information from my ER visits in regards to my issues, yet still nothing. I received an email stating that my lab results came back on tuesday, yet it is THURSDAY and they still haven't gotten back to me yet. They have this patient portal thing which is their main form of communication between the doctors and the patients. You can't even talk to a human being these days! I couldn't log into the patient portal so I called First Med and the grumpy receptionist transferred me to the nurses line which immediately puts you through to voicemail. They still have yet to call me back and I left that message on their phones Tuesday. Well, I call again today, again, the grumpy receptionist was being very rude considering that I'm a pretty patient person and was being kind. She told me that she doesn't really know much about the patient portal. She transferred me to someone else. She didn't even know what the website was because she says that they don't go on their very much. WHAT?! So you're telling me that this is your main form of communication to your patients, yet you don't know what the website is called or even how to NAVIGATE the danged thing?! The lady gave me my 'password' but the password she gave me didn't work. All 6 times that I tried using it. I had the information sent to my email and it turns out that she gave me the wrong password. sigh Do yourself a favor, if you want to be treated less like a shelter dog and more like a patient, then seek help somewhere else.
I have been a patient at FirstMed for a couple years now, and have nothing but positive praise for my treatment as a patient. The medical staff at FirstMed was able to cure me of a terrible intestinal infection, and I am so grateful that they listened to me when other physicians wrote off my symptoms as something more minor. Without their help I likely would have ended up hospitalized. During my treatment, they constantly called to check in on me, and made sure that I was seen promptly. I will never go to another physician in town.
I am very impressed by the team at First Med. I was recently in with my son after I was unable to get in to see my regular pediatrican (they didn't have any appts for over a month). We walked in late one afternoon and were seen almost immediately, even without an appt! The front desk staff was quick and polite and everyone was very friendly. I felt that all my questions were addressed in depth and the doctor took his time to examine my child and asked alot of questions about his overall health, He let me know what my options were for treatment and was helpful in explaining the medications and follow up care. It was the best experience I have had in a long time at a doctors office and we will definitely be back.
I believe the receptionists here could definitely improve on their communication skills and professionalism. As the first reviewer states above, they should not be making insulting judgments about people's ability to pay for services. Even if customers really cannot afford to pay, they do not deserve to be negatively judged. Likely I'm better educated than the receptionists/office personnel dealing with me, yet I was patronizingly treated like someone with zero healthcare savvy when I was actually exercising a smart choice by doing my best to avoid high emergency room costs for a non-urgent injury.
The receptionists should ask you how you plan to pay your medical charges ahead of time if you phone for an appointment to avoid unnecessary waiting and office delays. Also, they should ensure they do not share your private health and financial information with the entire waiting room. This outfit seems to provide a clear illustration of the failings of our for-profit health system.
I recently had a horrible experience at First Med. I felt that based on the fact that I didn't have any health insurance, I was judged and not treated like a patient that may have had insurance. Hart who is listed as an ARNP, treated me as if I was only there for some sort of pain medication, when all I really wanted was an antibiotic for my swollen glands. He didn't ask what was wrong with me, he just read it off the sheet and started off by asking me what I could afford. I had the means to pay for the visit and any tests, but he was very short and at first didn't listen.
Once I explained that I have chronic kidney stones and stated that I have been to a neurologist, he began to listen (kidney stones and swollen glans was the reason for my visit). He debated whether or not to give me any sort of antibiotic and then proceeded to tell me he would prescribe me something that may or may not help. Is this how First Med treats all their patients w/out insurance?
I have friends that go to First Med and have never had a bad experience. I am very upset and disappointed and don't think anyone should be treated that way.
Great customer service through the entire process! I had been sick for over a week after visiting my "normal" doctor. It was the weekend and I used the walk in service here, and was treated very kindly, quickly, and efficiently! Not only did they run different tests, but found the main issue and others that had arisen from not being diagnosed correctly the first time, and after only a day of the prescribed medications I felt better. I will never go anywhere else.
