Kristyn Maloney, Oread Restaurant Manager and The Oread’s Bird Dog and Five 21 Bar Manager, has recently received her certification for BarSmarts a “masters-type” mixology based course which includes Spirits Basics, Spirits Categories, Cocktails and Mixology, and Practical Application and Service.
The course study was created by renowned mixologists of the Beverage Alcohol Resource (BAR) association including Dale DeGroff, Doug Frost, Steve Olson, F. Paul Pacult, Andy Seymour and David Wondrich and spirits importer Pernod Ricard. The course material Maloney completed is the same as BarSmarts Advanced, an invitation only bartending class, which usually takes place twice a year in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
The Oread, Lawrence’s premier hotel, is the most unique and complete center for lodging, hospitality, business and social leisure activities in the region, perched atop Mount Oread, at the north gate of The University of Kansas.
