The Lawrence Humane Society offers and provides the following. 1. HUMANE SHELTERING: care for several thousand dogs, cats, and other small animals each year. 2. PET ADOPTIONS: assist and counsel prospective adopters to assure the best possible match between adopter and animal. 3. LOST AND FOUND: reunite pets with owners; offer pet identity tags and microchips to reduce the number of unidentified lost pets. 4. 24-HOUR EMERGENCY RESCUE: assist and treat injured ownerless pets. (Stray animal pick-ups are handled by the City of Lawrence Animal Control.) 5. CRUELTY INVESTIGATIONS: conduct investigations seriously and confidentially; offer medication and education; prosecution is sought when necessary. 6. LIAISON AND OUTREACH: work with humane groups, veterinarians, government, and businesses; enhance cooperation and community support. 7. PUBLICITY AND FUNDRAISING: seek media coverage and donations to further animal welfare.
