Steve Eubank directs a Lawrence Civic Choir rehearsalA native Kansan, Steve Eubank, graduated from Friends University in 1973, completing graduate work at Washburn University, Kansas University, University of Missouri - KC, and Washington University. Steve is Director of Choral Activities at Topeka High School, is the former Director of the Topeka Symphony Chorus, is director of Topeka’s First United Methodist Church Sanctuary choir, and is director of the Lawrence Civic Choir. After teaching in Belle Plaine, KS, and at Parkway Central High School in Chesterfield, MO, early in his career, Steve has been at Topeka High School for 21 years. He serves as a clinician and adjudicator for Missouri, Oklahoma and Kansas festivals and contests. He is an active member of the Kansas branch of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) and has served for the last two years as president. He is the current R&S High School Chairman for the Southwestern Division of the ACDA (SWACDA), serving Texas, Kansas, Colorado, Missouri, Arkansas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Steve has directed over 30 musicals at Topeka High School and elsewhere in the community, and was a member of Music Theater of Wichita for one season. He has sung professionally with the St. Louis Symphony Chorus and has been active in the Topeka Opera Society. Steve is also the director of the Topeka High School Madrigals, founded in 1937. This group is an integral part of the rich choral tradition at Topeka High School, which has 4 choirs, 254 choral students, and a full-time accompanist/music assistant. The Madrigals group is comprised of 20 singers, primarily Juniors and Seniors, and all must be enrolled in the concert choir, as well as fulfill eligibility requirements of the Kansas State High School Activities Association (KSHSAA). The Madrigals group has sung regularly at Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) and was chosen to sing at the ACDA's national convention in San Diego in March, 1997.
