I've done business at the 6th Street location for almost 10 years. We typically buy the same two items every week, sometimes twice a week. Apparently that isn't enough because in the last several months they have been out of the wine on more than one occasion. They have obviously cut their order below the demand and then give excuses like the suppler isn't producing as much or the latest, the delivery date changed. When we had to go to another store because they were out, that store told us they weren’t having any problems with the supplier. And how does changing the delivery day matter if you have an adequate supply? I think their indifference to the fact they are out is an indication that they no longer want my business. I wish they would just have the balls to say they are going to discontinue carrying that wine so I can quite wasting my time stopping there.
And I agree with the others about staff eating, texting, watching TV and not knowing answers to your questions. But that doesn't really matter when I'm not able to purchase what I want I guess. Lately I’ve been walking in and walking back out.
I have been a shopper at Alvin's for a few years, and the reason I keep going back is because I live two blocks away. I share the same opinion as others who have written reviews. The staff at Alvin's act like they could care less that you're in their store. The are always eating at the counter watching TV, or reading something. At one point while shopping their I ask one of them if they carried a certain bottle of wine, and his reply was "I don't know" he then turned to the other staff member their and said "I guess if I'm gonna work here I should get to know what we have in the store." The store is clean and well stocked, but their employees are the worst I've ever encountered while shopping. If a business wants to have a good staff working for them that deal with the public, they should take them to Alvin's on 6th street and simply tell them "See what these employee's are doing? Do just the opposite and you'll be fine."
Don't ask the employees any questions. They are busy reading the paper and watching TV; it ruins their day already to have you there as a customer.
Not a bad store, if the employees, including the owner's son(?), would at least pretend to care about customers. He acts like he hates being there and customers are definitely a bother.
Decent selection for it's size and always well stocked. I agree with a previous review, they do tend to lock up early. Convenient location & parking.
I tried going to this liquor store at 10:50 P.M. on a monday night. Apparently they close at 10:50 so they can text on their phones for the last 10 minutes of their shifts. It was a major inconvenience. I would not recommend relying on this store.
The clerks at the 6th street store on 4-27 were rude,unfriendly and disrespectful. One guy was stuffing pizza down his face as he was ringing up my purchase and generally acted like he was doing me a huge favor by taking my money. If I see those two guys again working there, I will turn around and go to the Cork and Barrel.
