Matt Peek, a wildlife biologist with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks, recounts the several mountain lion sightings in Kansas during the last year. One was sighted in early spring in western Kansas, another in October in Republic County, and most recently one was spotted in Nemaha County.

Paul Bahnmaier on Lecompton history
Paul Bahnmaier, president of the Lecompton Historical Society, spoke Wednesday about the importance of the Territorial Capital of Kansas and the role it played in the run-up to the Civil War. Bahnmaier's comments were made prior to a pre-legislative session meeting at the Lawrence school district administration building. Members of the Douglas County delegation and representatives of various organizations discussed issues in preparation for the session that starts Monday. Bahnmaier is trying to get legislators to visit Lecompton as part of Kansas' 150th anniversary of statehood.
