Young, old learn together at Baker
Students at Baker University worked together with elders in the community to learn life lessons and pass along advice. The program was a new idea this past year and the professor responsible hopes to continue it.

The driver responsible for the death of a woman on her bicycle was given the maximum sentence available for his crimes Thursday. The sentence includes six months in jail, a fine, community service and a year of probation.

Three charged in drug growing scheme
Three men were charged Thursday in connection with a marijuana growing operation north of Lawrence. All three were charged with multiple crimes.

Groups meet to discuss homeless future

Local locomotive to get new coat
Engine No. 1073 in Lawrence is scheduled to get a new coat of paint this coming Saturday. Volunteers will paint the old steam engine that has sat in town for more than 50 years.

KU baseball preparing for weekend
The Jayhawks were out in the wet weather Thursday preparing for an important weekend series against Oklahoma. If the Jayhawks win the series, their chances of making the NCAA tournament would greatly improve.

Crews respond to reported chemical spill
Emergency crews and a Hazmat unit responded Thursday morning to reports of a chemical spill in Malott Hall on the KU campus. The spill turned out to be just water.
