Shelter plans take big step forward
Plans to move the homeless shelter from downtown to a location near the county jail took a big step forward Tuesday. City commissioners approved plans that will allow the new shelter location to open with a 125-bed facility.

Fossil hunter makes rare dino find
A fossil hunter has returned to Lawrence after hunting for old bones in Montana. He found a half triceratops skeleton, something he believes to be his biggest find ever.

City commission approves new budget
City commissioners Tuesday approved a new budget for next year. The budget did not include several tax increases that were expected and cut one tax increase to less than originally projected.

Tonganoxie mayor in hot water again
The mayor of Tonganoxie is once again in the spotlight for the wrong reasons. For the second time, he used a city e-mail account to send out a pornographic message. The mayor has issued an apology for his actions.

Crews continue watching Lecompton store
Fire crews continue to watch the smoking remains of a Lecompton business Tuesday. The cabinet store caught fire Monday evening.

The EPA is currently collecting samples from MagnaGro to determine if wastes and chemicals were being stored properly. The agency will file a report after its able to analyze the samples it collects.

KU Hospital's first ovarian tissue transplant
Dr. S. Samuel Kim, director and associate professor of the Center for Advanced Reproductive Medicine, performed an ovarian tissue transplant on his patient from Seattle, Loraine Martin. The procedure will give her a chance to have children after surviving cancer nine years ago.
