Local school lending hand to Haiti
Wakarusa Valley Elementary School spent the past two weeks raising money to donate to Haiti. The students were able to raise more than $1,300 for the country.

Three people were charged during day two of a raid at a house just east of Lawrence. Federal agents have been conducting an investigation for unknown reasons at the residence.

Missionaries return from Haiti
Eight of the ten U.S. missionaries being held in Haiti returned to the United States Thursday. Those returning did not directly address the media or answer any questions. They were arrested in late January.

Eudora's police chief announced Thursday he will retire from the force. The city will now look to replace both its fire and police chiefs.

Free lunch numbers may save state money
Keeping a better record of how many students qualify and take advantage of free school lunches could save the state money. Better numbers could result in as much as $3 million saved per year.

Community voices policy change opinion
About 100 people showed up at city hall Thursday to voice their opinions regarding a change to categories for a city policy. About 40 people spoke during the meeting, which ended with a vote to not add the category of gender expression to the anti-discrimination policy.

The Spring enrollment numbers are down a bit from last year at Kansas University. The school say minority enrollment rise a little though.

City crews prepare for more winter weather
City crews are readying the plows and street treatments for the possibility of more winter weather this weekend. The plows will not be deployed unless at least three inches of snow accumulates in the city.

Collins to put name in KU record books
With one more victory, Sherron Collins will go down as having the best four-year record in the history of KU basketball. The Jayhawks take on Colorado in the Fieldhouse Saturday.

Seabury Academy's boys basketball team recorded a victory on its senior night Thursday. Seabury beat Topeka 70-52.

After a disappointing result in the weekend's tournament, LHS is looking to turn things around for the postseason. The Lions are hoping to compete in several weight classes.

Our attention is shifting to an approaching disturbance that could give the region a variety of winter weather. The bulk of the winter weather will begin during the pre-dawn hours of Friday. Snow will be the primary precipitation for areas north of I-70. Areas along and south of I-70 will see a rain/snow mix.
