Deer damages downtown department store
A young deer romped through downtown Lawrence and crashed through a window at Weavers. The deer then escaped with unknown injuries.

KU to enforce new chalking policy
KU will no longer allow just anyone to chalk on its campus sidewalks. A new policy aimed at preventing student drinking on campus will allow only student groups to use chalk as a way to advertise events.

Police investigating KU rape report
Lawrence police are investigating an alleged rape that occurred at a KU fraternity Saturday night. The suspect appeared in court Monday.

Car chase suspect charged in court
A suspect in a weekend car chase incident was charged in court Monday with several crimes. The person was arrested in North Lawrence after leading police on a brief chase through town.

Shooting suspect appears in court
A man charged in a drive-by shooting incident early Sunday was in court Monday for his actions. The man reportedly fired a gun at another car on 23rd Street.

Haskell student in court for burglary
A Haskell Indian Nations University student was in court Monday after breaking into a Lawrence home Saturday. Police found the student inside the house where nothing was reported stolen.

School board discussing boundaries
The Lawrence school board is set to begin discussing new ways of deciding which students in Lawrence attend which schools. The plan is part of the list of goals the school board is setting out to achieve.

Anshutz Library on the KU campus has benefited from some summer renovations and now KU students will too. The library is now bigger and more lighting should make it better for studying students.

Meals on Wheels suffers resource reduction
The Meals on Wheels program suffered a reduction in resources. The USDA decided in June to lower the program's priority for bonus food commodities.

KU flag pole snaps in summer storm
One of the iconic flag poles on top of Fraser Hall snapped during a summer storm Friday. Repairs of the damaged pole, which marks one of the highest points in Lawrence, are being looked into.

Damaged portion of fitness center reopens
A portion of KU's recreation and fitness center reopened Monday after a broken sprinkler head dumped water on some of the hardwood courts. Employees at the center said they are looking into ways to prevent this kind of incident in the future.

KU planning for rivalry game parking
The University has a parking plan for the thousands of people who are expected to attend the KU football game against Kansas State on October 14. Twelve lots near the stadium will be closed the night before the game with an additional nine lots being closed on game day.

Pick tapped for starting QB spot
KU football coach Turner Gill named sophomore Kale Pick the starting quarterback for KU's upcoming season. Pick, who played second fiddle to Todd Reesing last season, will line up behind center for the Jayhawks' first snap in 12 days.

Deer crashes through Weaver's window
A deer shattered a display window at Weaver's, 901 Massachusetts St., early Monday morning. Authorities had the injured animal temporarily cornered in a backyard in the 800 block of Alabama before the young buck escaped and ran north.
