My mother's father was a WWII marine and Purple Heart recipient. My father's father was a WWII soldier. My father served in the army. I served 6-years active duty army. Happy b-day to the Marine Corps. Happy Veteran's Day to all my brothers in arms.

This is a rather poorly worded question. Unless you are very young and/or have a very small circle of friends, you probably know someone who served in the Marines.

Nope, nary a one. I bet there are people who don't know anyone who served in any branch of the military.

When we were kids, my little brother had a GI Joe with the kung fu grip. Does that count?

I've had a couple of relatives and acquaintances who were in the Marines, but I don't think any of them worked in the kitchen.

Ahhh, the land branch of the Navy. Yeah, I've known a few....dozen. Great to have at your back in a bar fight. But we always fought each other if there wasn't anyone else around to fight with. My only good memories of Nam. I wish them a happy birthday.

My oldest brother was the first Marine in my life. Wow, he was handsome in those dress blues. No other uniform is as classy as that (my opinion). Then, while in college, I met the love of my life who happened to be a Marine. Sad ending which I won't go into here...but, yes, I knew two incredible Marines...and met many more through the two who were a part of my life. Amazing men and women!

For my dad, who died recently. He served in the Navy during WWII. "I love you, my beloved Daddy." And for all the military of our country...especially those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. These pictures are incredible...along with the communication from the tower...awesome.

Yes, I WAS married to one for about 15 years and all the time we were married...he had a girlfriend! Gave up his kids in the divorce and married her! SHOCKING HUH? I have always felt that he cheated his kids BIG TIME! Oh yeah, told me/us that we were getting divorced on CHRISTMAS MORNING. Anyone got some stinky cheese? Glad he is out of my life but I still hold our military in high regard.

Former 8404 Corpsman here. Though I was Navy, I was attached to the Marines, and wouldn't trade it for anything. Semper Fi.

My Dad was an island hopping Marine in the Pacific in WW II. He went in in 1943 and got home in in October, 1946. The extra year due to that he served in the Army of Occupation of China. He served with E. B. Sledge (google him) for over a year and never referred to him once as 'Sledgehammer'. Whenever someone would ask him about his wartime experience, he'd just shrug and say something like "We really didn't do anything in the war." I never heard Dad say 'Semper Fi' once in his life. It was always "Semper Fidelis" and he only said it to another Marine as either a greeting or a farewell.
