The man understands the game. He screws up names from time to time, but hell, that might just motivate the guys he's talking about when he screws it up.

  2. dragonwagon2 (anonymous) says…

I was SO prepared to not like him as a commentator but I have definitely changed my mind. His comments are right on, not overly emotional and its obvious he knows the game. I really enjoy listening to his explanations of plays - he "reads" the game and interprets it for listeners as a commnetator should.

  3. Rickyonealku (anonymous) says…

I love listening to former Coach Bob Knight do ESPN Basketball....the man understands his stuff and relays to the TV baskeball world the who what when and why it works....

  4. Rickyonealku (anonymous) says…

    A+ teacher...

  5. autie (anonymous) says…

He is great. At least he knows what he is talking about, unlike Brent Mushburgers that referred to Reed as "Tyler" about a half a dozen times last night.

  6. Scruggsy (anonymous) says…

Obviously he knows the game, but he is an absolute train wreck as an announcer. And he is about the biggest hypocrite in the country for now being a member of the media- the group he treated like crap for his entire career. Does anyone remember hearing the way he treated Big 12 media on the weekly Big 12 conference calls when at Tech???

    Hypocrite, sore loser, terrible announcer.

  7. rgh (anonymous) says…

He's very insightful and doesn't need all the rah-rah like Dick Vitale and Bill Raftery seem to need and crave.

He's a great analyst with a very sharp mind who shows no favorites.

Hated him as a coach, but absolutely love him as a commentator.

  8. BigPrune (anonymous) says…

He's good. I also like Brent Muntsberger who made the '88 Championship game so exciting. They seem to make a good pair. If one has an off night the other picks up the slack.

  9. jaywalker (anonymous) says…

    Easily my favorite.

  10. Catbacker (anonymous) says…

    Horrible...an absolute trainwreck.

  11. The_Original_Bob (anonymous) says…

Whatever, he's fine or not. I barely pay attention to the announcers. I paid more attention to the coked out red headed dude last night sitting directly behind them. Anyone else notice that guy?

  12. autie (anonymous) says…

I thought that red head guy was somebody's cousin. Right next to the blonde woman who is always there...

  13. beawolf (anonymous) says…

Other than his man-crush on Cole, he did a good job. Not my favorite by any means, but not the worst I've heard. Missouri fans must have hated him though.

  14. readit (anonymous) says…

Uh, that was Eddie Money, who sang the national anthem.

  15. autie (anonymous) says…

...and we did get a brief shot of the Princess in the stands. For like .8 seconds. I just wish I was going to Dodge City with Bobby Knight for the pheasant hunt.

  16. WilburM (anonymous) says…

Among the very best. No one knows the game better, and he is excellent at explanation -- and often anticipates plays.

He does need to be paired with a better play by play guy.

ESPN suggestion - -half- hour show in which Bilas, Gottleib, and Knight just talk about college hoops.

  17. The_Original_Bob (anonymous) says…

I knew I couldn't be the only person that noticed this guy...

  18. mom_of_three (anonymous) says…

I love him as a commentator. He explains the game, and the calls, and why the refs were wrong or right. He's not hyper or grandiose, but you can understand him. And yes, mispronunications of names and talking about the wrong call drive me crazy (which is why I hate watching games on CBS or with Billy Packer - that man is the worst).
But I love Coach Knight as a commentator. He tells you like it is.

  19. The_Original_Bob (anonymous) says…

Coach Knight loves him some Derek Jeter and Peyton Manning. I got to admit that gets a bit tiresome during the telecasts.

  20. autie (anonymous) says…

I'll be danged, it was cousin Eddie.

  21. Satirical (anonymous) says…

He reminds me too much of John Madden - he obviously knows the game, but just makes too many stupid comments for me to enjoy listening to him.

  22. cheeseburger (anonymous) says…

I didn't much care for Knight's antics as a coach, but he does do a pretty good job as color commentator, and the team of Knight and Musburger does a very respectable job.

  23. CWGOKU (anonymous) says…

I was at the game, so I will watch the DVR of the game tonight. I always was a Knight fan. He has forgotten more basketball than most people know. Musberger needs to retire. I can't wait to see the coked out Dude. Probably a Spacehog relative...

  24. ralphralph (anonymous) says…

Coach Knight knows his basketball like almost no one knows it. To me, though, the best thing is that he actually watches the game, and tells us about the game, rather than going off on some tangent like many announcers who just ramble on and on about things other than the game.

  25. readit (anonymous) says…

I like that he talks about the game and the plays. It's quite refreshing after the likes of Dukie V.

  26. The_Original_Bob (anonymous) says…

    cwgoku -

Watch during the opening back and forth between Knight and Musberger. The dude stumbles in behind them and sits down. He is very happy.

  27. 2002 (anonymous) says…

Not only do I like him, I think he is the best color commentator that I've heard. He knows the game so well and he explains it clearly. He appreciates good plays and is honest about bad plays. He clearly has done the research on the teams before the game.

  28. autie (anonymous) says…

    He is very happy.

That's because he has two tickets to paradise.

  29. andyk (anonymous) says…

@catbacker and all other cat fans: I'd hate him too if he told me the truth about KSU like he did last weekend.

  30. puddleglum (anonymous) says…

    oh snap.

    yeah he is the man!

  31. mom_of_three (anonymous) says…

I have heard Coach Knight commentate on several games, and I think he did a great job every time. He isn't a bs guy like Digger, who matches his highlighter to his notes. does Coach knight even use a high lighter?
Franchilla and the other guy just drive me nuts anymore. Names wrong, calls wrong and no one knows what they are talking about.
You look at Coach Knight and know what you are going to get - basic basketball.

  32. Ricky_Vaughn (anonymous) says…

Bob Knight has forgotten more about basketball than most people ever learn in a lifetime. Good commentator, legendary coach.

I still think he's waiting for a high profile coaching job to open up...

  33. Easy_Does_It (anonymous) says…

I appreciate that he does not talk about some kid playing on the next level all the time. Who cares that is why I watch this level.

  34. Gootsie (anonymous) says…

I watched coked guy come in and sit down. He was hysterical! the blonde woman who usually poses for the camera was to his left (our right) and did her 15 minutes of fame, but I believe they knew each other (or were just so darned excited to be on the Tv that they acted like little kids).

Game was awesome! I am a Bobby-Knight-as-a-commentator fan. He isn't all dolled up with face lifts and makeup, and he talks the game. I learn a lot from him. As a coach, I really did not like him even the teeniest bit.

Yes, I'd have biscuits and gravy with TOB and him and be proud to be there.

  35. leedavid (anonymous) says…

Bobby-Knight did a great job. I don't know that much about basketball so his viewpoint was great. He is not exciting or energy charged by any means. With some of those calls and no calls last night, I kept waiting for him to throw a chair or something. LOL!

  36. PikesPeakJhawk (anonymous) says…

Couldn't help but notice the red-headed guy...he couldn't help but notice himself either! Where in the world did they dig THIS dude up from...1982? Always love a good joke...thanks for providing it for me Red-Headed Guy!!!

  37. domino (anonymous) says…

I like Coach Knight as a commentator
    He knows the game
Gives good comments as to how a play could have been run better or why it was good the way it was
Doesn't drone on about the Pac 10, Big East or (insert any of a number of other conferences here)
Stays in the game - not going off on some totally other subject
Praises good plays/calls and comments fairly about bad plays/calls
Plainly and clearly states the facts - no screaming and yelling and making a fool of himself (Never thought I'd say that about Bob Knight!)

Would rather listen to him than most other commentators. Do think it is funny that Mussburger has started wearing sweaters at the games he announces with Knight.

  38. gfisch5 (anonymous) says…

Ok.....this is a joke right! All of you are pulling my chain on actually liking Bobby Knight as a broadcaster! He is the worst announcer on the planet with the....worse than Lou Holtz and his lisp! I like him as a coach but think he is the worst broadcaster ever! I use to dislike him as a coach as well until I saw his series on ESPN with Texas Tech! He knows his X's and O's with the best...but as 810 Sports pointed out.....he is pretty bad!

  39. BABBOY (anonymous) says…

No. He is terrible. I decided he had lost it when he suggested that the fans at the KSU-UT game should not chant overrated and should instead chant "Thank you, Thank you, thank you." If he did not like the overrated chant, that is fine. Just say the fans are out line or whatever. But, the thank you thing from a guy who used to throw chairs?

    Come on............

  40. BABBOY (anonymous) says…

Sooner or later, Coach Knight will take a pot shot at KU and the favorable response above will change......

  41. mom_of_three (anonymous) says…

I just listened to 10 minutes of steve lavin commentate the Michigan game and my appreciation of Bobby KNight as a commentator increased 300 fold. With Coach KNight you don't have to hear stupid analogies, such as a player rebounds compared to cookie and cookie monster. I would take him as a commentator over anyone else out there - seriously. Anyone.

  42. jumpin_catfish (anonymous) says…

Loved him as a coach and he's good at the color commentary too.

  43. deskboy04 (anonymous) says…

I love listening to Coach Knight. Now if ESPN would only hire Coach Mangino for their football games!

  44. jonas_opines (anonymous) says…

"He is the worst announcer on the planet with the….worse than Lou Holtz and his lisp!"

This is incorrect. No one is worse than Dick Vitale. Not even Raftery.

  45. thebcman (anonymous) says…

What the heck was Eddie Money doing in town? (besides getting a free ticket to paradise)
