"Maintaining" a death penalty law? Need to get a meaningful and effective one enacted first.
Let's see now: someone plans a murder. Gets a gun, practices with it, Walks into a church, kills a person, runs away, is subsequently arrested. Subsequently is found guilty in about the time it takes to order a takeout pizza and consume it.
And it's not a death penalty murder?
As somebody likes to say here: wow, just wow.
I know the devil is in the details, but on occasion there needs to be an effective way to flush a turd down the toilet of society.

I support having a death penalty. There are certain crimes that are so heinous, so inhumane, that in the commission of them the perpetrator has given up any claim to humanity and has sunk to the level of an animal. Like any other rabid animal they need to be put down for the safety of society. Claims of "conversion to Christianity" and pleas for mercy mean very little coming from these people. They are sociopaths without any real conscience or sense of responsibility for their crimes. I am personally familiar with a case of execution in Missouri. The person who was executed brutally tortured, raped and murdered a young woman. He was responsible for multiple other instances of brutal assault and rape. In my opinion he forfeited his own life when he took hers.

Revenge is not the same as punishment. A quick and easy death for murder punishes no one. Life without parole in solitary confinement is punishment, and it's cheaper because of lower legal fees.

The fear of the death penalty does not turn people because of all the appeals which they will get. If we did away with all the appeals and just made it a quick end to the madness crime might drop. It is far cheaper to execute someone instead of providing food,cloths,shelter,education, and insurence for them. I dont know about you but my sons school could use the money they spend on convicts.
