Chiggers first and foremost. Never met one until Midwestern Music Camp '80. Evil, dirty-minded little bugs. They burrow in and bite in places you cannot scratch in public.
Roaches second. Gage Management prides itself on having a larger roach than tenant population.

While a chigger bite may be a bit more painful and protracted, I wonder what the potential for fatalities are with that insect...?

The mosquito, on the other hand, can transmit:

* Heartworms in dogs, wolves, coyotes and other animals

* West Nile Virus

* Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) and Western equine encephalitis (WEE)

.... and those are just the things we typically see here in the United States. From a global perspective...

* Malaria

* Yellow Fever

* Dengue Fever

Chigger, schmigger. Nothing as potentially annoying as "death."

The mosquito wins this one, with four legs tied behind its wings.

I started to say chiggers, hands down, then read the posts and thought about it. Chiggers sneak up and do have the most annoying bite, but I chose mosquitos for being annoying before they even bite you just by virtue of the threat of a bite. They can keep you awake if buzzing around a tent or just be a pest when trying to do anything outside. Then there's the itchy bite to deal with. To top it off there's all the worrys Agnostick lists. Heartworm pills for the dog aren't cheap. They also can get you anywhere, not just out in the grass. Mosquitos get the nod.

The poll has nothing to do politics, but you just couldn't keep your yapper shut could you? A little insecure?

Besides, if there were no liberals, there would be no conservatives. You owe your end of the spectrum to the other end. You should check out libertarianism, it's swallowing your party whole and it would do your mind good.

Originally from Michigan, I have to say the Mosquito is the most annoying pest on God's green earth. Oh, there are many, to be sure, but the Mosquito has mastered the art of petty annoyance through numerous courses offered by stagnate ponds and standing water. I know Chigger bites can itch and they usually pick the vital areas, but Mosquitos buzz in your ears at night and suck your blood with friends. They mock you. I've seen 'em up close and they actually have handle-bar mustaches and tatoos. Yep, they're toughs who never had a stable upbringing nor structured volunteer work to keep them occupied. As if their tawdry lives aren't enough, they hang around other bad seeds like malaria and African Trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) and Dengue fever. Their crowd is trouble and they're trouble, too. Give me the whole bevy of other creatures, I'll take 'em all over the Mosquito....with the possible exception of the biting black fly, which is another Michigan favorite. Enough babble for now...I have to run out to Walgreens for some calamine lotion!

If I could wish one creature off the planet, it would be the chigger. Any young man who ever had a scrotal "helmet" of chigger bites would have to agree. Foks in the country call those bites in sensitive areas "cryin' chiggers", for good reason. Skeeters, ticks, etc., are all pains -- and really are more dangerous to your health, I suppose -- but that wasn't the question.
Chiggers. Chigger Helmet. Aaaagggghhhh!!!
