Signed up for the "budget billing level payment plan" for the gas bill. Never felt like I had to do that until this year. Alas, I haven't finished the Christmas shopping yet though.

There's going to be a winter?But... but... global warming....

We added several inches of insulation in the attic this summer to help all year round; replaced window coverings with lined, insulated drapes. Usually September is the time to stand outside and caulk the windows and doors, but this August is so cool, we have already started on that. We are trimming trees, helping to keep the solar panels clear, and are stacking the wood for the winter. This is just habit.

Actually, I love winter... the cold... snowfall... wood fires...the fire, without... and the fire, within....

Of course. Kansas can go from 70 degrees down to 15 in literally an hour in a half which can be followed by a blizzard. I've experienced it.From the moment of the last frost until the first freeze in the fall. I HATE winter. I hate the cold, I hate the dark, I hate the wind, I hate the snow, and I hate the ice.Why do I stay? --- My family and friends are all here.

SandCo, A buddy of mine was in your spot last month. Pre-paid $1200 for next Winter's propane and hoping it's enough.

I had to start last month. Since I live out in the boonies, I rely on propane for heat. The lowest price for propane is usually in July, so I contracted for my winter supply. It's a gamble, though. Last winter I ran out and had to buy more on the open market. That hurt.

Most certainly!I've dug a new sleeping chamber in my burrow, along with a very tricky escape route. I already have food caches buried all over the neighborhood (mostly acorns and pine nuts, but also some choice, meaty fishes and small mammals). Before long, I will need to slow down enough to build up some layers of fat--and I sure hope it cools off soon so my pelt comes in nice and thick like last year.

If you waited this long to prepare for winter, you are already too late. I'm actually preparing for next Summer as we speak.

It's all ice, which sucks, but:it's not that badThat being said, I have a one weeks ration of Bratwurst if need be.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That reminds me of the blizzard of 03 in Denver, What turned out to be a "can I crash here tonight" due to St. Paddys day turned into a snowed in for one week extravaganza at my ex-girlfriends house, Thank god she had a wine cellar and was stocked full of food due to the BBQ she was planning that weekend. Also, thank god her boyfriend was snowed in as well on the opposite side of town. LOL ! Man those we some good times. but after five days you really start to get cabin fever. No matter how drunk you are. LOL
