Coco Shutt plays with a Lawrence Humane Society puppy while her family drops off donations in memory of her brother, Cainan. The Shutt family has made a tradition of celebrating Cainan’s birthday each year by donating toys and supplies to the animal shelter. Cainan Shutt died in a 2011 car accident on Kansas Highway 10 near Eudora. He was an avid dog lover who would have been 7 years old this month. Dori Villalon, Lawrence Humane Society executive director, submitted the photo, which was taken by Amelia Mallett Kass.
