James Douglas Jackson, who was convicted in Douglas County in 2001 of several sex crimes against children, was vice principal at Arrowhead Junior High School from 1973 to 1976, according to school yearbooks from the time. Jackson, now 72, also served as vice principal at Northwest Junior High in Kansas City during the 1972-73 school year.

The Seacat family received the 2012 Emporia State Hornet Heritage Family award, which is sponsored by the ESU Alumni Association and recognizes a multigenerational ESU family.
