Teachers Trish Averill Neuteboom, left, and her mother, Jeanne Averill, review a lesson together. Trish teaches at Southwest Middle School, and her mom works at Lawrence High School. The two often bounce ideas off each other, as do other mother-daughter pairs who share careers.
Lawrence High film teacher Jeff Kuhr, left, prepares prize bags along with LHS seniors Bailie Richards, center, and CJ Roush before the start the seventh annual Focus Film Festival on Sunday at Liberty Hall, 644 Mass. Kuhr, Richards and Roush, along with senior Laura Fleming, were responsible for organizing the event.
Kansas' Meghan Potee tees off on hole 17 during the final round of the Women's Big 12 Golf Championship Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Lawrence Country Club.
This photograph, shown full-frame, was taken through a chain link fence using a telephoto lens and a fairly large aperture. This combination creates a shallow depth of field and made the fence almost invisible. Best results are with a fixed subject, long telephoto lens, large aperture and the lens right up against the fence.
New Horizons Band member John Bechen, right, warms up before a full band performance at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community this past winter. The band rehearses each week and then performs at area retirement communities once a month.
Queen Shorter, left, and her niece Linda Hunter, both of Lawrence, fish at Lone Star Lake Saturday, April 21, 2012. Joining the two in background is Caleb Shorter, Hunter's nephew, from Tulsa, OK.
Kansas University student Katy Sackuvich, a fifth-year senior from Olathe, is part of the reason Allen Fieldhouse stays clean following home games. Sackuvich and other members of the Betty's and Horror Zontals, the women's and men's ultimate Frisbee club teams, which spends about six hours, four to six times a year cleaning the historic building.
Aidan Hanna, 7, left, and Evan Hanna, 6, both of Lawrence, got to hang out with Kansas guard Tyshawn Taylor at the NCAA Tournament in Omaha, Neb., in March. Lew Hanna submitted the photo.
Danny Lenz, local program director for Douglas County Special Olympics, left, gives some instructions to swimmer Ben Clark, 18, during training at the Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center Saturday, April 14, 2012.
KU basketball coach Bill Self celebrates an over-time win against Missouri, Feb. 25, 2012. At center, behind Self is KU Public Safety Sgt. Gary Wieden, who has had the job of "guarding" Self for the past two years. Self considers Wieden a good luck charm, and the only time Wieden hasn't been guarding Self? A rare home loss to Texas in 2011.
John Towner, center left, directs the New Horizons Band during a performance at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community this past winter. The band rehearses weekly at the Douglas County Senior Center and usually performs concerts once a month at an area retirement center.
