James Stoutenborough, a doctoral student in the political science department at Kansas University, was at the sixth annual Capitol Graduate Research Summit. Students from KU, Kansas State and Wichita State displayed their research projects to state officials. Stoutenborough's project involved evaluating the effects of renewable energy incentives offered by states.
Shuang Cai, of the department of pharmaceutical chemistry at Kansas University, was at the sixth annual Capitol Graduate Research Summit, where students from KU, Kansas State and Wichita State shared information on their research projects. A team of researchers, including Cai, are working on developing drugs that can more efficiently concentrate chemotherapy in cases of breast cancer.

People embrace one another in tears Wednesday in a church in Winnenden, Germany. A 17-year-old gunman dressed in black opened fire inside his former high school in southwestern Germany on Wednesday, killing 15 people, 11 of them women and girls, before turning the gun on himself, authorities said.
