- Somebody overlooked an opportunity to get away with $13 last night. About 12:45 Night Watchman Monroe found the front door of the Gold Medal Cafe standing wide open and the lights turned low. He investigated but finding no one in the little eating house summoned the night officers. The cash register contained $13 in cash and apparently nothing had been disturbed.

- 25 years ago: Baseball, soccer added to sports program at LHS

- In spite of objections from two of seven members, the Lawrence school board voted to add baseball and soccer to the sports program at Lawrence High School. Jane Rutledge and Mary Lou Wright dissented, saying that the money for the baseball program would be better used for academics. Starting the boys’ baseball program was expected to cost from $5,700 to $5,900, with additional yearly costs for coaches, game officials, and transportation.

- The Oread hotel’s plan to host street parties on game days is not good for the neighborhood or for downtown.

- There was about as much action on the football field, a short walk down the hill from the Oread, last Saturday as there was around the hotel’s surrounding streets. That action would be little, considering the 6-3 loss the Jayhawks suffered in Memorial Stadium and the few people strolling the streets that the Oread had hoped would be full of partiers.
