Finding himself in need of a science project, the 7-year-old’s father suggested he prepare the bones. After taking the advice, Villemarette found himself the recipient of an award for his work. The Museum of Osteology, which opened Oct. 1 in south Oklahoma City, features some of the gems of Villemarette’s personal collection.

“The police raided the home of Mrs. Wenson on Morris street about 10 o’clock Saturday night. A case of beer and a quart of whiskey was found concealed in a stove in the kitchen. Complaints have reached the authorities at various times to the effect that liquor was being secured at this house, and the results of the raid seem to have justified the suspicions. This morning Mrs. Wenson pleaded not guilty to a charge of keeping a disorderly house, and was granted a continuance until Thursday.”
25 years ago: Western Hills residents to become unwilling Lawrencians

Approximately 240 residents of Western Hills were scheduled to become unwilling residents of the city of Lawrence. The 120-acre Western Hills area, an island of land surrounded on three sides by Lawrence city limits, was to be annexed, according to a 4-1 city commission vote. Residents of the area, which was located north of West 15th Street and west of Monterey Way, had been opposing the annexation for several reasons, including the high special assessments expected - up to $300 per month for an average house - to pay for street construction and extension of water and sewer lines.
