- Fourteen KBI agents had been assigned to Lawrence since July 20 and were continuing a seven-point investigation. A large number of witnesses had been interviewed, but the attorney general asked that any person who was related to the recent events and who had not yet been contacted by the KBI please contact the Bureau by phone or mail. In addition to the recent shootings that had resulted in two deaths and several injuries, the KBI was also investigating the alleged purchase of guns and ammunition in large quantities paid for by a check from the Black Student Union at KU.
