Ross killed a Lawrence lawman Oct. 11 after robbing the Eudora bank and had been on the run until yesterday when he again tried to rob the Eudora bank, shot a worker there and then apparently killed himself.

Gerald Gipp, president of Haskell Indian Junior College, was named national educator of the year by the National Indian Education Assn. He had been at Haskell since 1981.
