An even more costly tragedy could occur on Air Force One or Air Force Two, the planes designated to transport the president and vice president, respectively.
- BRIGHTEN A DAY
- October 19, 1999
- To the editor: Disasters of all sorts have prompted people to respond in many different helpful ways. This is all well and good. But there is another segment of our society that also needs some attention. That would include folks who reside in nursing homes, hospitals, and their own homes. Some people have problems that, unfortunately, are not going to go away but only progress. Visitations would be appreciated so much by many of these people. It might be just stopping by a few minutes for a visit, reading a story, or holding their hand that would brighten what would have been a more dismal day. A hug or a handshake oftentimes means a great deal.

- Consolidating community colleges is a good idea, but the state can’t be expected to pick up too large a bill to make it happen.
