MIDNIGHT FARM

At Midnight Farm the animals are talking…Midnight Farm has all the animals talking. Imagine accessible trails, John Deere “Gator”, tractor and draft horse hayrack rides, pumpkin and blueberry patches, a few picnic areas, an accessible camp site, an outdoor story area and fire pit, and a small gaggle of farm petting animals—all nestled around a rustic cedar meeting lodge with a rock fireplace. And imagine the meeting lodge looking into a beautiful equestrian arena for children and challenged riders. Mix in the smell of chili on the stove, the crackle of warm fire, and the sounds of a working farm and you will have Midnight Farm.

For some of us the good life is a rural one. While some of us want to live it, others just want to have a piece of it. Unfortunately, many people just don’t get the chance. This is especially so for adults, children, and families with special needs. We want to make a meaningful difference in the quality of life for those persons who want to experience this lifestyle. We think that this life, or a piece of it, will bring much happiness to many families, children, adults, and volunteers who want to make a meaningful difference together. Midnight Farm will initially offer four small farm homes, each on 10 acres. Two of these homes were completed and opened in 2008. Each new home is designed to meet the unique needs of persons with developmental disabilities and the families that help support their rural lifestyle. The equestrian center (covered arena/barn) and meeting lodge is about 22,000 square feet and will be open from the spring of 2009. The equestrian center offers a variety of horse experiences and horseback riding classes for children and adults with and without special needs (the horseback riding classes for challenged riders will meet the standards of approval of the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association). In addition, Midnight Farm offers miniature horse experiences, small animal petting opportunities, a fishing pond, handicapped-accessible trails through the woods, and many possibilities for birthday parties and special events. Midnight Farm and all its amenities is located five miles south of Kansas Highway-10 from Eudora. This location is within 30 minutes from almost any “city” community in Johnson and Douglas County.
