Mildred and Bob Goans

Bob and Mildred Goans, Lawrence, will celebrate 65 years of marriage with an open reception Sunday at Central United Methodist Church.
Robert T. Goans and Mildred M. Bray were married Jan. 14, 1946, in Sedalia, Mo., a few days after Bob’s discharge from the U.S. Army, where he served in the South Pacific during World War II.
The couple have been best friends for 70 years.
Four generations of family will host the reception. From Lawrence, son Mike and wife Ann; grandchildren Lisa Goans, and Julie Goans-Heinz and husband Kirk Heinz; and great-grandchildren Michael and Laura Quackenbush and Jessie and Ellie Goans-Heinz. Son Brad is visiting from Tecopa, Calif. and grandson Allen and wife Brooke are visiting from Kirksville, Mo. Four other grandchildren and two great-grandchildren celebrate with them from afar.

Wilma I. Wake, Lawrence, and Gary L. Anderson, Broadview, Ill., announce their engagement.
The future bride is the daughter of the late Floyd and Ruth Wake. She is the owner of Professional Sitters Unlimited, an agency specializing in the care of disabled and senior citizens who need assistance.
The future groom is the son of the late Clarence and Cecile Anderson. He is the pastor of By Grace Christian Ministries and is the manager of a website by the same name. Pastor Anderson, semi-retired, travels and teaches the gospel at churches in Chicago and around the Midwest.
The couple are planning a Feb. 19, 2011, wedding at El Shaddi Church in Topeka.

Doug and Barbara Rich, Lawrence, along with Rick and Kathy Heckert, Lawson, Mo., announce the engagement of their children, Lindsey Rich, Shawnee, and Chad Heckert, Lawson.
The future bride is a 2004 graduate of Free State High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in geography from Kansas University in December 2008.
The future groom is a 2003 graduate of Lawson High School. He is a senior at Park University and is earning a communications degree.
The couple plan an Oct. 8, 2011, wedding at Danforth Chapel at KU.

Daniel and Barbara Schmitz, Olathe, along with Sherri Cannon, Lawrence, announce the engagement of their children, Kathleen M. Schmitz and Orion R. Kinkaid, both of Lenexa.
The future bride is a 2003 graduate of Olathe North High School, a 2007 graduate of Emporia State University, and is a recreation coordinator at Johnson County Parks and Recreation.
The future groom is a 2001 graduate of Lawrence High School, a 2007 graduate of Kansas University, and is an associate art director at VML.
The couple are planning a Jan. 29, 2011, wedding in Kansas City, Mo.

Eric and Marge Epperson, Eudora, along with Lamecia and Loren Rockey, Udall, announce the engagement of their children, Kelsey Epperson, Eudora, and Zack Rockey, Udall.
The future bride is a 2006 graduate of Eudora High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in mass media from Baker University in May 2010 and is an account coordinator at Parris Communications, Inc., Kansas City, Mo.
The future groom is a 2006 graduate of Udall High School. He also earned a bachelor’s degree in mass media from Baker University in May 2010 and is a national account executive at Uhlig, LLC in Overland Park.
The couple are planning a June 4, 2011, wedding at Plymouth Congregational Church in Lawrence.

Elizabeth Janet Dillon and Jay Kent Edward Fisher, both of Eudora, were married June 12, 2010, in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
The bride is the daughter of Chris Peterson and Mary Kobe-Peterson, Kansas City, Kan.
The groom is the son of Brian and Rita Fisher, Eudora.
Maid of honor was Erin Dillon. Best man was Matt Fisher. Groomsman was Ryan Fisher. Guestbook attendants were Kate Linman and Lizzy Huey.
A reception was given at The Mission Theatre.
The bride is a 2000 graduate of Eudora High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 2004 and a master’s degree in school counseling in 2009, both from Emporia State University, and is a guidance counselor at Turner High School in Kansas City, Kan.
The groom is a 1998 graduate of Eudora High. He earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business administration in 2002 and a master’s degree in accounting and information systems in 2004, both from Kansas University, and is a contract auditor with the U.S. Federal Government, General Service Administration.
The couple reside in Bonner Springs.

Kate Shipley, Olathe, and Ben Gleeson, Lawrence, were married June 19, 2010, at South Park in Lawrence, with professor Malcolm Gibson officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Brad and Caron Shipley, Aurora, Colo.
The groom is the son of Mark Gleeson and Mary-Nell Gleeson, Lawrence.
Maid of honor was Darya Khalili. Best man was Sam Gleeson. Bridesmaids were Samantha Shipley and Morgan Swofford. Groomsmen were Ben Turner and Eli Stogsdill. Ushers were Danny Shipley, Scott Shipley, Jonathon Shipley and Megan Heacock.
A reception was given at Liberty Hall.
The bride is a 2002 graduate of Olathe South High School. She earned a journalism degree from Kansas University in 2007 and is a second-year law student at KU Law School.
The groom is a 2002 graduate of Lawrence High School. He earned a history degree from KU in 2006, completed the paramedic program from Johnson County Community College, and is a paramedic for Johnson County area.
The couple reside in Lawrence.
