Emmett and Carole Mitchell, Lecompton, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a private family dinner.
They were married June 13, 1957, at First Methodist Church in Sherman, Texas.
The couple graduated from Sherman High School. Carole attended Ohio State University and received degrees from McHenry County College and Chicago State University. She also attended Emporia State University.
She was employed at McHenry County College, Fairview Elementary School in Carpentersville, Ill., the Baker University Library and the Lawrence Public Library. She has served on the Northeast Kansas Library System Board of Trustees as the governor's appointee and is a master gardener.
Emmett attended Texas A&M University and received a Bachelor of Arts from Austin College. He was employed at Quaker Oats for 23 years in Sherman, Texas; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Marion, Ohio; Chicago; and Lawrence. He worked in research for Hills Pet Nutrition in Topeka for 19 years, including two years in the Netherlands and three years consulting in Brazil.
Emmett is the immediate past president of the Lawrence Breakfast Optimist Club.
Their children are Bob Emmett Mitchell and wife Julie, Chippewa Falls, Wis.; Andrew Edwin Mitchell, Pine, Colo.; and Susan Brownlee and husband Garry, Mulvane. They have four grandchildren.

John and Loretta Chavez, Lawrence, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 19 with a Mass at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a dinner, reception and dance at the Knights of Columbus in Lawrence.
John Chavez and Loretta LeDesma were married May 18, 1957, at St. John the Divine Church in Kansas City, Kan.
After living in Topeka for 17 years, they moved to Lawrence in 1974 when John established his business, Chavez Dental Laboratory. Loretta helps manage the business and is a homemaker.
Their children and spouses are Tom and Cheri Chavez, Lee's Summit, Mo.; Irene and Robert Hardy; Kathy and Mark Douglas; Joe and Laura Chavez; Steve and Dionne Chavez; Christine and Mike Wenger; Gabriel and Amy Chavez; Anthony and Rebecca Chavez; and Vincent Chavez; all of Lawrence; and the late Paul Chavez.
They have 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lee and Wilda Robbins, Baldwin City, are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. They are planning a second honeymoon trip to favorite vacation spots.
Lee Robbins and Wilda Markley were married June 9, 1957, in Centropolis.
Lee attended Wellsville schools and served in the U.S. Army. He worked at FMC for 35 years. Wilda attended school at Appanoose and at Ottawa High School. She worked for Hallmark Cards, Curtis 1000 and Zarco. Both are semi-retired.
Their children are Tony Robbins, Fairgrove, Mo.; Michael Robbins, League City, Texas; Jerry Robbins, Oskaloosa; and Brenda Roberts, Baldwin City.
They have 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Ken and Mary Margaret Rowen, Lawrence, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. July 1 at First United Methodist Church's Celebration Center, 867 Highway 40.
They were married June 30, 1957, in Miller, S.D., and have lived in Kansas since then.
Ken worked for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, serving as office engineer on Tuttle Creek and Milford lakes, and as resident engineer on Melvern, Clinton and Hillsdale lakes.
Mary Margaret organized a new home economics department at Highmore (S.D.) High School before marriage. In later years, she did microwave oven promotions, was curator at Watkins Community Museum of History and was a kitchen designer.
Their children are Rodney Rowen, Seattle, and Don Rowen, Omaha, Neb., and their families.
Lynne Thuy Long Tran and Timothy Robert Donnally were married Jan. 6, 2007, at St. Columban's Catholic Church in Garden Grove, Calif., with the Rev. John Schmeidler officiating.
Earlier that morning, they celebrated a traditional Buddhist Vietnamese matrimonial tea ceremony followed by a lunch reception at the home of the bride.
The bride is the daughter of Phat and Hoa Tran, Garden Grove. The groom is the son of Reaumur and Mary Donnally, Lawrence.
The maid of honor was LeeAnne Yoshioka. The best man was Chris Donnally. The bridesmaids were Mabel Wan, Irene Chui and Mary Lam. The groomsmen were Joe Donnally, Mike Yimer and Mike Connolly. Ushers were Matt Axcell, Erick Axcell, Minh Tran and Phi Le. Scripture readers were Jennifer Donnally, Huong Huynh, Jeff Scheibel and Quang Tran. The gift bearers were Katie, Jeff, Chris and Sara Scheibel.

Lynne graduated from Pacific High School and the University of California, Irvine. She is employed by Indymac in Denver. Tim graduated from Lawrence High School and Kansas University. He is employed by IBM in Denver.

Mallory Richardson and Alan Martinez were married May 26, 2007, at Danforth Chapel at Kansas University, with Magdalene Brooke officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Earl and Teresa Richardson, Lawrence. The groom is the son of Dr. John Martinez, Lawrence, and the late Pamela Martinez.
The maid of honor was Aimee Richardson. The best man was Nick Martinez. The bridesmaid was Kelsey Richardson. The groomsman was Todd Blettner. Guest book attendants were Rychel Johnson and Stacie Garland. The organist was Karen Martinez. The vocalist was Jamison Martinez.
A reception was given at the Adams Alumni Center.
The couple are 2003 graduates of Free State High School. Mallory graduated with highest distinction from Kansas University in May with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology. She plans to begin medical school at the KU School of Medicine in July.
Alan is pursuing a degree in human biology at KU and plans to attend medical school.

Jacquelyn Dianne Kenne and Michael Leo McCaffrey were married May 29, 2007, in Monterosso al Mare, Italy. A Lawrence celebration will be given in August.
The bride is the daughter of John and Linda Kenne, Victoria. The groom is the son of William "Mike" McCaffrey and Carol Eller McCaffrey, both of Lawrence.
Jacque attended Leavenworth High School and graduated from Victoria High School in 1999. She graduated from Kansas University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art history and a Bachelor of Arts in design. She is employed as parish administrator at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bloomington, Ind.
Mike graduated from Lawrence High School in 1997 and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in art from KU in 2005. He is pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in painting at Indiana University in Bloomington.
