School board accepts anonymous donation
The Lawrence school board voted to accept an anonymous $400,000 donation to help with construction costs at Free State High School. The donation will go toward building new athletic facilities.

Raccoons rescued from garbage truck
Two young raccoons found themselves trapped in a garbage truck Monday morning. Animal control was called to the scene and rescued the two scavengers.
Woman sentenced in high-speed chase
Barbara Jo Schnegelsiepen was sentenced to more than 12 years in prison following a high-speed chase that ended with her hitting an officer. She will also be made to pay about $36,000 in restitution.
Bank robber back in court
A man serving time in prison for robbing banks is in court in Douglas County. He is being charged with robberies of Douglas County banks from 2003.
New County Appraiser appointed
Steven Miles is taking over as the new Douglas County appraiser. Miles has served 18 years in the County offices.
City close to purchasing Farmland
The City of Lawrence is close to a deal to purchase the former Farmland Industries property. The property just east of Lawrence spans more than 400 acres.

KU's Buford arrested during weekend
Chase Buford was arrested Saturday morning on charges of operating under the influence. Coach Bill Self said in a statement that discipline would be handled in-house.
