Lawrence fire marshal Rich Barr will retire Dec. 18. Barr joined the department in 1977 as a firefighter. He is the only man to serve as the Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical Division’s fire marshal, which he has done since 1985, when the position was created. Barr, who lives in rural Lawrence, says he has no immediate plans after he retires.
