Wakarusa Valley students along with the school’s LEAP partners, Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and Central National Bank, collected $1,360.65 in two weeks for Haiti relief efforts. The Douglas County Conservation District’s 64th annual meeting and dinner was Feb. 8 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. Each year the district gives awards to farmers, their spouses and landlords for outstanding conservation efforts. From left are Eileen McGivern, Zak Bolic of Douglas County Bank, Theresa Cain and Dan Cain. The Cains were winners of the Kansas Bankers Association Award for Soil Conservation. McGivern is their daughter, and Bolic presented the award, which was sponsored by the bank. During the meeting, Roger Kitsmiller was elected to a two-year term as district supervisor.

The Baldwin High Culinary Management Team placed first at the Kansas Restaurant and Hospitality Association’s ProStart Competition in Wichita.
