I have been to Wayne & Larry's several times in the past. My last visit was probably eight months ago. One time stands out in my mind where the waitress was prompt, polite, and friendly and the food was good.
Last week, however, when my wife, stepson, and I went there for dinner it had changed. A moderate number of guests were eating. The food the others ordered (burgers) took over forty minutes and the waitress did not come over once between our initial drink order and the food. I was told my food (wrap) would be out promptly. Five minutes later I was given the wrong food. I had pointed to it on the menu while saying what I wanted. I am a retired teacher and have a clear, strong voice. I told the waitress it was wrong. She apologized and said my correct food order would be right out to me. Nearly twenty minutes later I still had no food. The rest of my party was finished. The waitress had not come back. I walked over and politely but firmly told her that we wanted a bill for the others' food and I was going to eat somewhere else. "Do you want to see the manager?" she asked. I told her I didn't. Several minutes later the manager came out, said he would personally see to the food. I was finally served by the polite manager about ninety minutes after being seated and our bill was reduced. The food was okay. The evening was NOT a success. On my way out I politely told the waitress I hoped she could improve and I wished her good luck.
I am giving a score of average due to the good trips before this one and the manager seemed to want to accommodate me. It does seem the waitress could use some training. I always tip twenty percent. I didn't want to tip at all but my kind-hearted wife left fifteen percent.
Wayne & Larry is a decent place to munch. The taco salad bowl is just ingredients piled up but with a little extra salsa or sour cream - pretty good.
Firecracker pasta is chicken and cheesy with jalepenos in a large serving. Burgers are made from the same beef you get at so many places in town that use Sysco.
I think for Lawrence, you get a place with tvs, trivia night, and they offer a lot of coupons in publications around town. Bring a buy 1 get 1 and you get a good deal.
I think a kids menu or healthy french fries or steamed veggies would help bring kids from the alley to the restaurant.
(This was from July 31st) I’m going to try and keep this short, so I apologize for any gaps. Never ate here before, but gave it a try because we had young kids (10 and 12) visiting and were going bowling after dinner. Walked in to seat yourself sign, took a few minutes to find a clean space for 4 and 4 chairs, waited for 15+ minutes for service, after the 3 tables came in and were waited on before us went up to the bar, greeted as “why are you bother me” and told “Oh just a moment”, waitress comes over took drink order asked for a Diet Dr. Pepper was told they don’t have that, fine water, waitress comes back apologizes advises she’s new (NO PROBLEM with that what so ever!!! Seriously the waitress did a fine job!!) and gives me a diet dr pepper, we were brought chips and salsa on the house while we waited for our food, great except the salsa had no flavor and was just spicy (still the thought that counts, but wait it gets better), our table ordered two wraps, chicken parmesan and a burger… tasted horrible, especially the chicken parmesan expensive for noodles and store bought spaghetti sauce, then when my husband used the ketchup for his fries it was fermented, told the waitress who had a blank stare (not sure if she could hear me or if she didn’t know what fermented meant), but I hope someone tasted it… then our overpriced bill for the quality of food let alone the service (not our waitress)—Paid and will never be back.
