The Lawrence Music Alliance will be sponsoring musical performances ahead of some World Cup watch parties this summer, including a performance Tuesday before Algeria’s first match.

The group announced Monday in a press release it is partnering with Lawrence Busker Festival to bring “top-notch live music” to three of the Score Lawrence celebrations this summer. Those dates will be Tuesday, June 16, before the Argentina and Algeria match; June 25, before the U.S. and Turkey match and July 11, before the quarter-final match taking place in Kansas City. As the Journal-World reported, Busker Festival organizers will host those three celebrations and watch parties; there are two more watch parties being hosted by The Granada venue group.

The featured musical acts on Tuesday night will be SUNU, a world funk band with members from Kansas City and Lawrence, and Indra, an indie rock band based in Lawrence. Musicians from local organizations BLACK Lawrence and Amplify Lawrence will also perform. That event will run from 3 to 8 p.m. at 10 E. Seventh St.; the watch party will begin at 8 p.m. at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St.

On June 25, the musical acts will be Lawrence alternative rock band LYXE, a Turkish disco-funk group called EZGi and pop/hip hop duo VCMN. Additionally, musicians from the Kansas State Fiddling and Picking Championships will perform. That celebration will run from 4 to 9 p.m. outside of the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., and the USA and Turkey match will be screened inside afterwards.

The final celebration on July 11 will have performances by Hembree, a Los Angeles-based rock band originally from Kansas; Rudy Love & The Encore, a neo-soul band from Wichita, and Kat King, an indie rock musician based in Kansas City. The festivities will take place from 3 to 8 p.m. in South Park while the match will be shown at Maceli’s, 1031 New Hampshire St.

Nick Carswell, the director of Lawrence Music Alliance, said in a statement the group is thrilled to be able to spotlight the “great musical talent in our region” through live events surrounding the World Cup.
