Save the Wakarusa Wetlands, Inc is a private not for profit advocacy group dedicated to keeping the South Lawrence Trafficway (SLT) out of all parts of the wetlands north of the Wakarusa River. We have open membership, generally meeting with the WPO students at Haskell Indian Nations University's library on Monday evenings at 6:00 pm. Our members are drawn from the community, from Haskell alumni, and students from area universities. Members include teachers, boarding school historians, retirees, native linguists, poets, biologists, ministers, bus drivers, environmentalists, nature photographers, historic preservationists, native rights advocates, birdwatchers, duck hunters, hikers, bikers, high schoolers, butterfly chasers, and folks just like you! They have all been active whenever the need arises to fight the next manifestation of this perennial SLT beast. We have persevered for over 20 years and our grandchildren are poised to take over the struggle if necessary.
