Moms to shave heads for cancer fight
A local group is taking its fight with cancer across the country. Moms will shave their heads to help raise money to fight children's cancer, which is diagnosed in 46 children each weekday.

Adult day health center opens in Lawrence
An adult day health center provides social activities for seniors. It also can provide respite for caregivers. Until Midland Care Connection opened the center, there was no such program offered in Lawrence.

Federal agents arrested a Texas fugitive Friday for sex crimes with a minor. The man was a former Kansas priest.

Woman arrested after kicking man
A 27-year-old woman was arrested Sunday after physically abusing a family member. The woman kicked the man in the face and he was treated at the scene.

Changes coming to Lawrence junior highs
Grade realignment in Lawrence junior high schools has many small changes coming with it. Among those changes will be the switch to calling the schools middle schools.

The local Muslim community says it feels comfortable and accepted in Lawrence. There are about 1,000 Muslims living in Lawrence currently.

About 100 runners and walkers hit the trails at the new Kansas state park. The new park is called the Kaw River State Park.

KU football suffers season-opening loss
The Jayhawks took a big step in the wrong direction Saturday as they lost their season opener to North Dakota State. The team will have to regroup before taking on Georgia Tech next week.

KU volleyball sweeps weekend classic
The Jayhawks won all three matches in the Jayhawk Classic during the weekend. The team improved to 7-0 on the season.

The Topeka Zoo had a special birthday bash for its oldest animal during the weekend. Their elephant turned 50 years old.
