Local employees bike to work
Many Lawrence employees ditched their vehicles and biked into work Friday morning as part of national Bike to Work Day. The bikers were rewarded with coffee and food along with prime parking.
Choppers to check for building weakness
Helicopters will be flying through Douglas County looking for weaknesses in four county properties. The project costs about $6,000 each year.
Veritas graduates three seniors
The three graduating seniors in the Veritas class of 2010 share a special bond. The three graduated in a special Friday ceremony.
LHS grad finishes family legacy
Soon-to-be LHS graduate Haley Parker is the last in her family to leave the local high school. Parker has learned to balance sports and academics and will take her wisdom on to the college ranks.
Community works to repair local church
Community volunteers are helping to repair St. James Church in North Lawrence. The church has experienced flooding in its lower levels.
6Sports anchor not smarter than 5th graders
6Sports anchor Andrew Baker was stumped by a question at Langston Hughes Elementary Friday. Baker answered six when asked how many months had just 30 days.
Free State baseball headed to state
The Firebirds took down Washburn Rural in the regional final Friday to advance to the state tournament. The Firebirds won the game with early offense, 7-4.
LHS baseball ends season with loss
The Lions couldn't hang on to a 3-1 lead Friday in their regional final. LHS will ends its season and hopes of repeating as state champs with a 4-3 loss.
Lions softball shut out in final game
The Lawrence High softball team couldn't produce any offense against Washburn Rural on Friday. The Lions were shut out 10-0.
Free State track star sets state record
Drue Davis of Free State High School set the Kansas state record in the pole vault Friday. Davis cleared a height of 12'8" to set the mark.
Artsy cars to parade downtown Saturday
New additions to the Art on the Go parade were on display to Lawrence youth Friday. The unique cars will roll through downtown Lawrence Saturday.
