Overnight weather for May 11, 2010
The storms have mostly passed and it should be relatively quiet overnight. Temperatures will be near 50 again but the sun should be out on Tuesday.
Divers train in Potter Lake
Divers took some time Monday to train in the murky waters of KU's Potter Lake. The divers performed various tasks including searching for a lost piece of equipment.
First of four falcons born in Topeka
The first of four falcon eggs hatched Monday in Topeka. The falcons have become residents of the Westar building.
Hopes unveiled for new task force
The Lawrence school board has revealed its hopes for a new task force. The group would evaluate effective uses for the district's elementary schools.
Tonganoxie approves new fee schedule
Tonganoxie approved Monday a new school fee schedule for the district. The fee plan for next year will not include a fee for out-of-district families.
Budget headed to governor's desk
A state budget is on its way to Gov. Mark Parkinson's desk. The plan calls for a $13.6 billion budget but questions still remain on how it will be funded.
Former teacher won't see jail time
A former teacher at Basehor-Linwood will not serve any jail time for inappropriate conduct with a student. The former instructor will serve one year of probation.
Topeka police chase down deer
Topeka police chased down a runaway deer within city limits Monday. The injured animal had to be put down.
Power outage leaves downtown in dark
A lightning strike is suspected to have caused thousands of Douglas County residents to lose power Monday morning. Businesses did what they could to operate until the power was restored.
KU baseball passes gut check
The Jayhawks battled back against Missouri to capture the series sweep on Sunday. The team came back from two down in the 10th inning to claim the victory.
LHS baseball loses key player
The Lions will battle rival Free State this week without their starting short stop and one of their best hitters. The player was injured during a routine practice drill when he was hit in the head with a ball.
Lawrence High soccer coach leaving
Both Lawrence High soccer teams will be looking for a new coach after Matt Anderson announced he will seek out other options. Anderson will continue to coach until the end of the current season.
