Governor Mark Parkinson has said he will veto any budget proposal that asks for more cuts. Parkinson said he is instead in favor of temporary tax increases to help close the budget gap.

Driver seizure sends car into building
A driver with a medical condition reportedly had a seizure Tuesday and lost control of the vehicle, sending it into the side of an apartment complex. No one was injured in the incident and no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

Atchison man arrested after brief chase
Police arrested an Atchison man after being led on a brief car chase Tuesday afternoon. The man was uncooperative and officers were forced to use a taser and pepper spray on the man. He was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital as part of standard procedure after the incident.

A trial date has been scheduled for a murder case that is more than four years old. The trial is set for October and is expected to last about a week.

New York School welcomes new students
About 60 students will be switching schools after the Lawrence school board approved a boundary change. The students got a tour of their new educational building Tuesday at New York School.

Free State baseball rolls over opponent
The Firebirds handled the Falcons of Olathe South easily on Tuesday. The top team improved to 13-3 on the season.

The Firebirds softball team wasn't up to snuff Tuesday against the Olathe Northwest Ravens. Free State fell 3-1 in the contest and fell to 5-12 overall on the year.

High school sophomore and KU basketball recruit Perry Ellis was in Lawrence during the weekend to participate in the Jayhawk Invitational tournament. The high school phenom said he is waiting until his senior year to decide on a college.

Car crashes into apartment building

Police use Taser to subdue reckless driver
Lawrence Police stopped a man who led them on a brief chase Tuesday afternoon after he failed to pull over after driving recklessly. A Taser and pepper spray were used in subduing the suspect.

A 33-year-old Lawrence man was arrested early Tuesday morning after leading police on a car chase through Lawrence. No one was injured during the incident.
