Bowersock Dam repairs nearly complete
An ongoing project to repair the Bowersock Dam is nearing completion. The project has cost more than $2 million but should benefit surrounding power plants.
Special Olympians return with hardware
Douglas County Special Olympians returned from a weekend tournament in Hays with some winning hardware. Athletes competed in basketball, cheerleading and had a dance Friday night.
Plans for homeless shelter moving forward
Plans to relocate Lawrence's homeless shelter to a building near the Douglas County Jail are moving forward. A request for a special-use permit for the building will be proposed at the Monday meeting.
Farmland purchase nearing resolution
The city's plan to purchase farmland near Lawrence is almost complete. The city plans to convert the space into a business park, attracting jobs for Lawrence residents.
School board to close early childhood center
The Lawrence school board has decided to close the East Heights early childhood center for next year. The programs the center offers would be moved elsewhere.
State leaders propose more school cuts
Funding for public schools may get cut again if house republicans get their way. The current plan calls for $172 million in cuts, which would slash another $1.6 million from the Lawrence school budget.
Jayhawks down Jays in WNIT
Kansas took out Creighton in WNIT action, winning the contest 71-68. The Jayhawks advance to play again Thursday.
KU men sent home early
The Jayhawks fell in a close game against the Panthers of Northern Iowa Saturday. The loss ended the team's season with a record of 33-3.
