KU researchers gain ancient bird knowledge
Researchers at Kansas University say they have figured out how birds first took to the sky. The researchers have built models of early dinosaurs they believe had the ability to sore through the air.

Americans accused of attempting to kidnap 33 Haiti children are being held in the disaster-torn country. The group members insist they were only trying to help the individuals.

KU chancellor warns of budget woes
KU's chancellor spoke out about the negative impact budget cuts have been having on the university. Cuts and unfunded mandates have cost KU $37 million and more than 200 positions.

Idea presented to avoid school closings
Closing an elementary school could save the school district a decent chunk of change. Some parents say that reconfiguring the junior high grade layout would be a more effective method for saving the district money.

Local bikers getting traffic help
Lawrence bikers hitting the trail near 11th and Oregon streets are getting a little traffic help. New pedestrian-activated traffic signals have been installed.

Local retirement community in works
A plan to build a retirement community in Lawrence is in the works. The building would house 124 units for retirees and would cost about $10 million.

Kansas outlasts Colorado in OT
The Jayhawks needed overtime for a second straight game to get by Colorado on Wednesday. Kansas kept its unbeaten conference record alive by dominating the extra period.

Lawrence store shut down for federal raid
Sacred Journey, a store on Massachusetts Street that sells the herbal mixture K2, was shut down Thursday while officers from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Johnson County Sheriff's Office and Lawrence Police Department investigated.
