Pregnant giraffe dies at Topeka zoo
A giraffe at the Topeka zoo died while pregnant Friday. Zoo keepers found the animal in the morning. Hope, a newly born giraffe, continues to struggle through leg surgery.

Copper theft leaving locals heated
Recent copper thefts have left some area residents and businesses without working air conditioning. The copper has been taken from air conditioning units. Six reports of copper theft have been filed since the end of July.

Fire downtown diverts area traffic
A fire in downtown Lawrence had traffic on Massachusetts Street blocked off for about an hour Friday. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

Tonganoxie residents asked to watch water use
Residents in Tonganoxie are being asked to watch their water use while crews work to repair a broken water main. The city lost about 200,000 gallons of water when the main broke.

Andrew Baker took on the most skilled opponents yet in a 6Sports Challenge, students at South Junior High School. Baker was quickly knocked out of the Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament despite a generous handicap.

Rubber ducks take over Chicago river
About 33,000 rubber ducks were dumped into the river in Chicago in support of the Special Olympics. The fundraiser allowed participants to buy single ducks or a "quack pack" of six.
