Moran visits local health clinic
U.S. Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., stopped in Lawrence on Thursday to learn about Health Care Access clinic. He praised the clinic and the Lawrence medical community for stepping up to help Douglas County residents who are uninsured. He also talked about why he voted against health reform.

Drivers urged to use caution near train tracks
Two Kansans were killed this week when their truck collided with a train. Train vs. car accidents can often be fatal, and railway officials said a train hitting a car is the equivalent of a car hitting a pop can.

Residents without power after storm
Many area residents were left without power after a storm moved through the area Wednesday. Westar Energy crews worked Wednesday and Thursday to restore power to all area residents.

Program warns of summertime danger
The National Weather Service launched a new program Thursday to raise awareness for how hot it can get in a vehicle's back seat during the summer. About 37 children die each year from being left in cars.

Topeka giraffe to make national debut
Hope, a young giraffe at the Topeka Zoo, is garnering national attention after undergoing surgery to repair problems with its legs. The staff at the zoo is also expected another baby giraffe to be born in the near future. Hope will appear on the Today Show on Sunday.

Electrical fire near 1300 Fair Lane
This video submitted by reader Sarah Roenfeldt shows an electrical fire in the 1300 block of Fair Lane. Roenfeldt said she and her husband heard a loud boom about 2:30 a.m. Thursday and saw intermittent flames, sparks and smoke until Westar Energy turned their power off. Emergency were repairing power lines throughout the night after a thunderstorm Wednesday evening.
