Public library holds Last Splash Bash
With summer drawing to a close, the public library held its Last Splash Bash downtown Thursday. Children listened to music and had the change to dunk their librarians in the dunk tank.

KU reviewing business school spending
Kansas University will be conducting a review into how the school of business is spending its money. Complaints from students in the school state they agreed to pay more for a better education and the school has yet to deliver.

Shooting suspect charged in court
The suspect in the weekend shooting at the Exchange appeared in court Thursday. The suspect was charged with one count of second degree attempted murder and five counts of aggravated battery.

Vacant building has new businesses
A vacant building on south Iowa Street will now be home to three new businesses. The Topeka-based stores will sell mostly furniture items.

Baby giraffe undergoes surgery
A new giraffe at the Topeka Zoo underwent surgery to try to fix its legs. The progress and effectiveness of the procedure will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis.

County jail hands tend to new garden
A garden planted near the Douglas County Jail is being tended by staff members and inmates. Staff members plan to continue the garden next year.

KU's top new recruit Josh Selby has not yet been cleared to play by the NCAA. Selby's mother said she is confident no problems will arise from the NCAA's actions.

The starting quarterback job for Kansas University is still a mystery. Both Jordan Webb and Kale Pick are front runners for the position, which may not be assigned until the first game draws near.

Former Firebird in all-star game
Former Firebird standout Chantay Caron took part in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association all-star game Thursday. Caron will join the Kansas State Wildcats in the fall.

The second half of the work week is looking much better than the first. Some drier air will continue to filter into the area through the day Thursday. Afternoon highs will top out in the upper 80s and lower 90s, which is a far cry from our recent bout of triple-digit heat.
