Demolition derby draws crowd at Douglas County Fair
The demolition derby got underway Friday at the Douglas County Fair. Spectators were treated to vehicular carnage and flying mud as drivers competed in the event.

Jaeger defense rests after testimony
After a full day of testimony, the defense in the trial for Matthew Jaeger rested Friday. Closing statements in the case are expected to be made sometime Monday.

Man fatally stung while at campground
A 63-year-old man died Thursday after being stung by an insect. The man was camping near Clinton Lake when the incident occurred. While the cause is not yet certain, it is believed the man suffered a severe allergic reaction to the sting.

Lawrence income: where it ranks
The average income in Lawrence leaves something to be desired when compared to other cities across the country. The cost of living in Lawrence is also high in comparison to other cities in the Big 12 conference.

City planning ahead for Kasold roadwork
The city is making plans ahead of time for roadwork scheduled to begin on Kasold. The project is expected to last anywhere from six to 12 months. There will be an open house for community input.

Eudora back to square one with city administrator
The new city administrator Eudora had approved declined the position this week. Eudora will essentially start over with the candidate search process.

Jayhawk football misses top 25
The preseason college football rankings were released Friday without the Jayhawks in the top 25. Only Nebraska made the list from the Big 12 North.

Briscoe practices on first day
Dezmon Briscoe was on the practice field Friday for the Jayhawks first official practice. Briscoe had been suspended from the team in the spring.

Construction of interchange ahead of schedule
The construction being performed on exit 212 is still slightly ahead of schedule. The new toll booths will be run electronically when the interchange opens, which is slated to occur by Thanksgiving.
