My next device will be based upon the city's new homeless parking meter plan. I am getting a Computerized Homeless Unsolicited Metered Parking device.

I didn't vote. I just got a computer upgrade, thanks to my husband who builds our systems. I now have a six core AMD processor with 8 gig of RAM and a terabyte HD, along with a new case that has eight fans and dual monitors. Yeah, I get into muscle machines. We won't be going back to Intel, thank you very much.

Commadore 64. Best 8-bit computer ever.

Then a friend who still has his should be happy to hear this. Can't believe there are two of you out there.

I've still got my Commodore VIC-20. The Commodore 64 was too high tech for me.

0

cait48 1 year, 11 months ago

I have a C64 emulator. Does that count? Actually, I do still have my C64 in storage. Getting rid of a computer or a computer part, no matter how old it is, is a pain to my husband's soul. But that's not as bad as my best friend's husband. He still has the first computer they ever owned; a TRS80 II.

I still have my Commodore Users Group T shirt and some of the programming books. The C64 was so versatile. It will take a long time for desktops to catch up to the technology we had. The Amiga and Atari were outstanding, too.

HP Envy laptop. All the quality of a MacBook without Steve Job's version of Vista (OSX Lion).

"if everything goes as planned"

You planning on being a hipster that hangs out in coffee shops?

0

redmoonrising 1 year, 11 months ago

Best comps I ever owned. Gonna try an iPad soon, I hope. Can I start hanging out at coffee shops then too?

hear_me 1 year, 11 months ago

Love my iPad. I recently purchased an iMaC. I'm waiting for the new OS to be released. iMac software is not as impressive as iPad or PC software.

I am gonna get me one of them there transistor radios, they says you can takes them outside and listen to music and whatnot anywhere

0

RoeDapple 1 year, 11 months ago

I have a transistor radio I bought in 1970 that still looks new! If I put batteries in it it still sounds as good as it did back then. Terrible.

0

Pywacket 1 year, 11 months ago

I fervently wish I still had the pocket transistor radio my grandma sent me when I was all of 3 or 4! (Late '60 to early '62...) It was kind of an ivory color (celluloid?) and had a brown leather or (as they called it) "leatherette" case. I carried that thing everywhere for years.

When I was in my tweens and regularly clashing with my mom, I'd sit on the garage roof for hours with my radio and a book--or a friend would be there with me and we'd discuss everything in the world while listening to scratchy top-40 selections.

I have no idea what ever became of it, more's the pity. Those transistors from that era are highly collectible now. It's probably entombed in an old Michigan landfill. Dang it.

Always have a good transistor radio, and use it daily. I'm going for a photo scanner. Any suggestions?

0

gphawk89 1 year, 11 months ago

I suggest NOT purchasing a photo scanner and getting a film scanner instead - assuming you still have the negatives. Make sure it's a true film scanner, not just some adapter you put on your flatbed scanner.

0

wissmo 1 year, 11 months ago

Have few negatives, mainly wish to use the scanner to digitize old and very old photos.

How about suggesting a specific make and model?

The netbooks puzzle me. I understand that they are smaller making them more portable, but they cost nearly what a low end laptop with twice the capabilities would cost. Shoot, for only a few hundred bucks you can buy a pretty decent laptop and have a larger display and more computing power and options.

If you want this kind of information from me, you can pay me for it. Other wise Fugitaboudit.

Nothing for now. I've had a Sony Vaio for several years and it's been a great workhorse. I have used it for work and school (Adobe Suite classes, so I have Illustrator, InDesign, PhotoShop, etc., installed) and no problems so far. My husband (an IT guy and tech freak) thinks I need a new one but I can't see spending the money until this one starts giving me fits. Kind of like cars... I've never been the "new one to impress the neighbors every two years" type.

Technologies have overlapping uses. I skipped the smart phone and iPod Touch. I have an iPad and two desktops. I'll wait to see what happens next.

Definitely not a Dell. Laptop was a P.O.S., made a better fishing weight.
